Mental Health Awareness Month

October is observed as Mental Health Awareness Month, and our school celebrated this significant month by organising a series of meaningful and engaging activities for students. The initiative was undertaken in line with the theme of “Demystifying Mental Health,” with the aim of helping students develop a better understanding of their emotions, mental well-being and the importance of empathy.

Throughout the month, students participated enthusiastically in a range of age-appropriate activities. Through poster-making, they expressed their thoughts and ideas about mental health and emotional well-being creatively. Activities on understanding and labelling emotions encouraged students to recognise what they feel and understand that experiencing different emotions is a natural part of life.

Students were also introduced to journaling as a healthy way of expressing their thoughts and feelings. This activity encouraged self-reflection and helped students understand the importance of acknowledging and communicating their emotions.

The awareness initiative was further strengthened through assembly, where students collectively took an oath to understand and respect the emotions of others and to be empathetic towards everyone. The oath highlighted the importance of kindness, sensitivity, active listening, and creating a supportive environment where everyone feels heard and respected.

As part of strengthening disaster preparedness among students and staff, a Mock Drill on Earthquake Evacuation was conducted by the Disaster Management Committee for the whole school on 14th October 2026 in the morning assembly and in the respective classes.

The objective of the drill was to create awareness about how to respond quickly, calmly and safely during an earthquake and to practice the evacuation plan of the school.

Prior to the drill, students were briefed about earthquakes - what causes them, what are the early signs and why preparedness is essential. The students were then explained the three most important factors to be followed during an earthquake - DROP, COVER and HOLD.

DROP - Drop down to your hands and knees immediately.
COVER - Cover your head and neck under a sturdy table or desk.
HOLD - Hold on to your shelter until the shaking stops.

The Disaster Management Nodal Officer, Ms. Silky Sharma, along with team member Ms. Geeta Sharma, explained in detail the Do's and Don'ts to be followed during and after an earthquake situation. They emphasized on not panicking, staying away from windows and heavy furniture, not using lifts during evacuation, moving to open areas and following the designated evacuation routes.

The students actively participated in the drill and practiced evacuating their classrooms in an orderly manner and assembling at the safe assembly point.

The session was highly informative and interactive. It helped both students and teachers to understand the importance of disaster management, the school's evacuation plan and the safety measures to be followed in case of any natural calamity.

Overall, the mock drill was successfully conducted and achieved its objective of making the school community more alert and prepared.

A Day Where Science Came Alive: Our Visit to CSIR-NPL

On 8 October 2026, around 30 students from Classes 10 and 11,accompanied by our teachers Dr. Sonali and Mr. Sanjay Joshi, stepped out of the classroom and into one of India’s most important scientific institutions: the CSIR-National Physical Laboratory (NPL) in New Delhi. It was a day that turned textbook ideas into something we could see, hear and ask questions about. Learning that the time on our phones and clocks traces back to the standards maintained in this very campus made us look at something ordinary in a completely new way. As we moved through the laboratories, scientists explained their work in a way that was clear and welcoming. Concepts we had only read about, such as units, measurement accuracy and standards, suddenly had real faces and real machines behind them. What fascinated us most was the sheer care that goes into getting things right. In a world where we often settle for “close enough”, NPL showed us that real progress in science begins with exactness, patience and honesty about data. Many of us asked questions that went well beyond our syllabus, and the scientists answered them with enthusiasm, which made the visit even more engaging. The trip gave us more than information. It showed us that science is not limited to exams and chapters. It is a career, a service to the nation, and a way of thinking. For the Class 11 students, who will soon be choosing their paths, it was a glimpse of what research can look like. For the Class 10 students, it planted a curiosity that will hopefully grow in the years ahead. We returned to school inspired, carrying new knowledge and bigger questions. Our heartfelt thanks to the NPL scientists and staff for their time and warmth, and to our teachers for organising this memorable experience. Visits like this remind us that the future of science in India is built by people who once stood where we stood, curious and ready to learn.

Greenway Modern School celebrated Gandhi Jayanti and Lal Bahadur Shastri Jayanti on 3rd October with great enthusiasm and reverence. The special celebration provided students with an opportunity to remember the inspiring lives, values, and contributions of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri, while encouraging them to imbibe the principles of truth, non-violence, simplicity, discipline, patriotism, and service in their daily lives.

The celebrations were thoughtfully planned and conducted class-wise under the guidance of the teachers, ensuring that students of every age group could understand and connect with the ideals of the two great leaders through engaging and meaningful activities.

The students of Classes 1 and 2 participated in creative activities such as colouring pictures of Bapu, fancy dress presentations, learning inspiring slogans like “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan” and “Do or Die”, and making colourful paper charkhas. These activities helped the young learners become familiar with the lives and messages of the national leaders in an enjoyable and age-appropriate manner.

Students of Classes 3 and 4 explored the values of truth and non-violence through slogan writing, poster making, and storytelling based on Gandhi Ji’s famous Three Monkeys. They also participated in bag-making activities promoting the message of “Say No to Plastic” and delivered short speeches highlighting Lal Bahadur Shastri Ji’s simplicity and humility.

For Classes 5 and 6, the celebration focused on deeper reflection and creative expression. Students wrote essays on their favourite Gandhian values, enacted the historic Dandi March through role plays and skits, created chalk portraits of Gandhi Ji and Shastri Ji, and participated in Best out of Waste activities using khadi and handmade paper.

The students of Classes 7 and 8 engaged in thought-provoking activities, including a debate on the relevance of non-violence in the modern world and a quiz on the lives and achievements of Gandhi Ji and Shastri Ji. They also presented soulful renditions of patriotic and devotional songs such as Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram and Vaishnav Jan To. A Swachhata Drive further reinforced the values of cleanliness, responsibility, and community service.

The senior students of Classes 9 and 10 showcased their understanding of the leaders’ ideals through Nukkad Nataks based on Satya and Ahimsa and Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan. They also participated in a speech competition on leadership lessons from Gandhi Ji and Shastri Ji, watched a documentary followed by reflection writing, and expressed their thoughts through the activity “Letter to Bapu”, reflecting on what they would ask Mahatma Gandhi if they could meet him today.

The celebration was a meaningful blend of learning, creativity, reflection, and participation. Through these diverse activities, students not only learnt about two eminent leaders of India but also reflected upon the timeless values they represented.

The day concluded with a renewed understanding that the principles of truth, non-violence, simplicity, patriotism, cleanliness, and selfless service continue to hold immense relevance in our lives.
