Teej is a vibrant and culturally significant festival celebrated by women in different parts of India. It is dedicated to the goddess Parvati and her union with Lord Shiva and is marked by singing, dancing, and fasting. In the context of preschool and pre-primary education, celebrating Teej can be a fun and educational experience for young children, allowing them to learn about cultural traditions and values engagingly. Considering these things, Greenway Nursery School celebrated Teej on 8th August 2024. Children explored cultural attire and customs. They came wearing traditional clothes in green color like suits or lehengas (for girls) and kurta-pajamas (for boys). This helped children appreciate and understand the beauty of traditional attire. They were introduced to traditional flavors and foods by bringing traditional sweets associated with Teej, like ghewar. This allowed children to experience the festival’s culinary aspect. Celebrating Teej in preschool and Pre-primary classes not only makes learning enjoyable but also lays a foundation for cultural sensitivity and appreciation, fostering a sense of belonging and identity among young learners.
