Dussehra, also known as Vijayadashami, is a prominent Hindu festival that celebrates the triumph of good over evil. Greenway Nursery School embraced the spirit of this festival to instill cultural values and traditions in young children.

Teachers narrated the epic tale of Lord Rama’s victory over the demon king Ravana. Using age-appropriate language and visual aids, they engaged the children in this compelling narrative, highlighting the importance of righteousness.

Dussehra-themed art projects allow the children to get creative. They made colorful paper Ravana effigies. These activities not only enhance fine motor skills but also teach them about the festival’s significance.

The highlight of the celebration was the creation of a small Ravana effigy. Children were taught to understand that this effigy symbolizes the defeat of evil.  A mock “Ravana Dahan” (burning of Ravana) was organized to reenact this part of the story, emphasizing the victory of good over evil.

Throughout the celebration, teachers focused on imparting values such as truth, courage, and the importance of doing the right thing. They engaged in discussions with children to help them understand these lessons in a relatable manner.

Dussehra celebrations were not only about fun and frolic but also about nurturing cultural awareness and instilling important life lessons. Through storytelling, art and craft, and mock Ravana burnings, children are introduced to the rich tapestry of Indian culture and the eternal message of good prevailing over evil. These celebrations provide a memorable and enriching experience for the youngest members of our society.
